Welcome
Thanks for dropping by our website! We would love to meet you in person, so please check out the times of our services (top-left) and come along. We'll make sure you feel welcome.
We’re a Church of England parish church and the main thing about us is our common identity as Christians, but we’re amazingly diverse at Christ Church. Black, white and brown. Married and single. Young and old, and a growing number of families. Added to that, we’re all from different walks of life. Christ Church is a welcoming community and that’s probably why we came in the first place.
There have been Christians meeting at Christ Church to worship God every week since the 1880’s and we’re excited about walking in that tradition at the beginning of the 21st century. Our style of worship on Sundays is informal and relaxed but with some set prayers or ‘liturgy’. The Sunday service is very suitable for everyone including families, with a lively and contemporary approach. We celebrate Holy Communion several times a month, when we remember the death of Jesus by taking wine and bread. Also, we have special provision for our growing number of kids on Sunday mornings as well as during the week, including Campaigners, Brownies and Guides.
We place a lot of value on teaching from the Bible and on depending on God to help us live the lives that He is calling us to live, using all our God-given gifts and abilities. We are a member-church of New Wine, an informal network of mostly Church of England churches who believe those things are important too. We also enjoy good relationships with other churches locally and further afield, and we’re pleased to belong to the Diocese of Birmingham.
As well our worship on Sunday mornings and our Communion service on the 4th Wednesday of the month, we are establishing small groups in 2009. These mid-week groups meet in people’s homes for the purpose of getting to know each other better and together exploring what it means to be a Christian, a friend of God. It’s important for us that “church happens” in smaller gatherings as well as services in church. Because at the end of the day, it’s all about recognising God’s place in our lives and learning what that means. Jesus is alive!
Let me encourage you to join us on a Sunday or a Wednesday and stay around afterwards for coffee or tea. We look forward to getting to know you.
